Founded in 1990 by 17 singers, the Seattle Lesbian and Gay Chorus has grown over the years from a small ensemble to a large professional group performing regularly in Seattle and throughout the Puget Sound area. SLGC is a member of GALA, the Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses, and has performed at GALA Festivals in Denver, Tampa, San Jose, and Montreal, Canada. In May of 2002 SLGC was a host chorus to the first ever Western Regional GALA Festival. Its concerts "My Big, Fat, Gay Wedding," "Faraway Places" and "UnSung Heroes" were warmly received in Seattle and continued the chorus' ongoing efforts to expand its musical horizons.

In lesbian couples, domestic violence is as common as it is in any other
intimate relationship - it is estimated that as many as 46% of lesbian
women experience abuse from their partner. The abuse may be physical,
sexual, emotional, economic, or verbal abuse but it is all the result of
one person trying to control their partner. Our weekly group program
helps women who use controlling or abusive behavior have healthier
relationships. Our small groups are tailored for the specific needs of
lesbians who want to change their behavior, whether they are
self-referred or are asked to attend a state-certified domestic violence
course through the court.
