Support for Survivors
The NW Network has provided services by and for the LGBT community for over 20 years. We offer skilled support for survivors of domestic, dating and sexual abuse.
Our services include:
- Advocacy-Based Counseling – The NW Network offers emergency and ongoing advocacy-based counseling centered on survivors’ choices and self-determination. We work to create a supportive space for survivors to decrease isolation, understand the dynamics of abuse, heal from trauma, increase skills and build self-esteem on the road to creating the lives and relationships they want.
- Support Groups – Our weekly all-gender support groups offer LGBT survivors opportunities to reduce isolation, build connections and share their stories in a supportive, engaging environment.
- Safety and Support Planning – We understand that survivors are the experts of their own experience. Advocates offer survivors consistent, ongoing support to build skills, choices and strategies to reduce harm, as well as rebuild connections to friends, family and community.
- Basic Legal Advocacy – Advocates can help you think through options and support you in navigating complex legal systems. We work to get survivors connected to skilled, LGBT-competent legal resources when necessary.
- Resources and Referrals – From housing, food banks and legal assistance to mental health programs and LGBT social support groups, NW Network advocates connect survivors and their families with the resources that meet their unique needs.
FAQ
How do I get support?
It works best to give us a call (206-568-7777). We’ll set up a time for you to speak with an advocate who can answer questions about our services. Advocates will talk in depth with you about what’s happening in your relationship and identify the best available resources in your community.
What if I don’t live in the Northwest?
No problem. The Northwest Network is part of a national movement to address domestic violence in LGBTQ communities and has relationships with organizations in many parts of the country. We provide services to people all over and know that people are usually best served by providers with knowledge of the communities they live in. We do our best to connect people to the resources that will be most supportive for their needs—wherever they might be.
How much does it cost?
All of our services are FREE AND CONFIDENTIAL.
I’m worried about my friend. Can I call with questions?
Yes! As an organization rooted in the LGBT community, we understand the role friends and chosen family play in our lives. Advocates will speak with you about how you can help your loved one connect to resources, as well as how to offer strategies and information to a friend or family member who is experiencing abuse.
How do I know if these services are right for me?
We’d be happy to help you figure that out. Whether you feel certain of the support you are looking for or just have questions about issues in your relationship, advocates will spend time learning more about what’s happening in your life and work to get you connected to the best resources for your needs. We have staff from diverse backgrounds, identities and experiences in an effort to make our services as accessible as possible.
How do I know my information will be kept private?
At the NW Network, confidentiality is of the utmost importance. We understand both the benefit and challenge of reaching out for services within your own community. We have 25 years of experience in working within small communities and ensuring that your information is kept confidential.
